A rear tipping dumper is commonly used on construction sites building new roads It is used to transport large loads of materials across a site, usually on rough, undulating terrain. Its ability to handle a mixture of terrain and carry large loads makes it a flexible piece of equipment.
This course teaches you how to operate a rear tipping dumper safely and productively. This course covers either Rigid or Articulated all sizes.
- Learning a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used.
- Being able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
- Being able to locate and identify steering driving and braking controls and explain their functions.
- Identifying and maintaining PPE appropriate for Rear Tipping Dumper use.
- Conducting all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements.
- Safely mounting and dismounting the machine.
- Conducting all necessary safety checks at the work area.
- Starting and stopping the engine and safely moving the Machine off and stopping it safely to include operating on gradients.
- Configuring the machine for travel and manoeuvring it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas.
- Prepare the rear tipping dumper for use & operate machinery safely and efficiently.

- Pre use and operational checks.
- Manoeuvre through a chicane applying the full steering range in both
forward and reverse direction (un-laden and laden).
- Position for loading operation.
- Drive over uneven and sloping gradients.
- Demonstrate hill starts.
- Discharge the load over an edge or in excavation x 2.
- Discharge the load to form a stockpile x 2.
- Reverse the dump truck (50m) in a straight line and through a
- restriction (un-laden and laden).
- Pass mark is less than 20 penalty points and no mandatory disqualifications.
- Time allowed is 1 hour 30 minutes.
